This is gonna be a LONG post so I am warning you in advance :D
Lets start with Friday. I got home Friday night after my o so boring day at work, and decided I wanted to get out of the house. I ended up going up to Target and wandering around at about 9pm. What was I doing? Being BORED. I ended up however purchasing Guitar Hero 2 with Controller. My god that game is FUN! I finished all songs on Easy with 5 stars, and got 2 new guitars unlocked.
Then I started Medium 0_0. Adding the fourth button makes my head spin. But I shall perservere! I SHALL WIN! Rawr. I got 5 stars on Mother by Danzig, but only 3 stars on 2 other songs :( Sadness. I swear to god that Psychobilly Freakout and Madhouse are gonna make me cry.
Lets move on...to SATURDAY! I spent a wonderfully boring and uneventful day at work, did a couple of things for Strolens, and then decided to head up to Office Depot. While I was there, I saw a nice leather office chair that was on sale. $130 bucks marked down to $64. NICE. I knew that Jan needed a new chair, so I bought it, as her Xmas gift. I also bought an Easel Pad of 50 sheets of 26in by 30in Graph Paper for DND Battlemaps.
Sunday! DND TIME! More comedic action, and I ended up having a talk with Dan, the guy playing the Spellthief. You see, earlier in the week I asked Dan to rate the following 5 things, in order of which he liked best to worst.
Roleplay, Combat, Character Development, Puzzles, Story
He ordered them, from most fav to least fav, as follows:
combat, roleply, story, puzzlse, char development
Note that Puzzles are second to last, and that Combat is way up front.
The Spellthief is a rogue styled class. They excell at sneaking around, and dealing with puzzles, as well as some forms of combat. But a frontline fighter they are not. What does he do? Plays it like a front line fighter. Now, I tried to give him options to stretch the skill powers of the Spellthief by putting locked doors and traps for him to deal with, but truth be told...he sucked at it. In fact, he disarmed 1 single trap out of like 5, and broke one of the 5 so it could not be reset :P He also spent a good deal of the adventure at 2hp or less. Yes, he kept getting owned.
So after a good 30 - 45 min of discussion, and the help of Jess the other player, we convince him to reroll is character as something else. Basically his personality name and history are the same, but everything else changed. I did this so that way he wouldnt feel like he was being punished.
We ended up making him a straight up fighter. 16 STR and 16 CON, 10 every other stat. Has 50 HP at level 4 (he rolled in front of me :P). Has a set of fullplate, a large steel shield, and a masterworks bastard sword. Also has exotic weap prof Bastard Sword, Weapon Focus and Weapon Spec Bastard Sword, and Quick Draw.
Boy hits for 1d10+5 and has +9 to hit. After the change, we finished the dungeon. I asked did he have more fun or less, and he had more. I think he is going to like being a combat powerhouse. I also talked to him about multiclassing as a cleric, to add spellpower and other abilities to the mix. He already is nearly impossible to hit, and by making himself a combat cleric, he becomes even more deadly. I should know, thats what I usually play as :D
All in all it was a good last 3 days. They finished the whole dungeon (Although yelled at me for throwing CR 1/2 zombies at em...come on they should know to carry slashing weapons!:P)
So there ya have it! LONG POST IS LONG
